The Brain: Concidered Anatomically, Physiologically, and Philosophically
Emanuel Swedenborg

In 1743 Emanuel Swedenborg completed his second major work on the human brain...'The Brain' follows 'The Cerebrum' in dealing in considerable detail with the animation, or inherent motion of the cerebrum, and the predictable motion of its membranes abd the cranial bones secondary to it. But this work extends the description of this phenomenon to the cerebellum and the spinal cord as well...Other sections of the work describe the structure and function of the cerebellum, and pineal and pituitary glands; ...In these and other parts of 'The Brain', Swedenborg clearly anticipates the discoveries of anatonomists and physiologists to come.
The Cerebrum
Our Price: $44.95

His first of two major works on the brain,* this book serves to illustrate the power of induction, or reasoning from specifics to general scientific principles, at which Swedenborg excelled. It is here that he describes the animation, or intrinsic motion of the brain, and the predictable motion of its membranes and the cranial bones secondary to it. In other sections Swedenborg proposes an ingenious interpretation of endocrine neurophysiology and the central role of the cerebral cortex in motor function.

A Philosopher's Notebook
Our Price: $29.95

A Philosopher's NotebookEmanuel Swedenborg / Translated by Alfred Acton

This is a collection of excerpts from various scientists, philosophers, and theologians, together with Swedenborg's comments and his own ideas. It is one of several such volumes among Swedenborg's unpublished manuscripts. This particular volume was starte as he prepared to extend the series begun in the first two volumes of the Oeconimia regni anmimalis (Dynamics of the Soul's Domain.)

In The Philosopher's Notebook we find quotations from more than 200 authors, both classical and modern, along with several hundred Bible quotations, all arranged topically, under such heads as : the soul, the organic mind, the animal spirits, logic, optics, the elements, motion, free will, predestination, god, immortality, etc. From these selections... we can see the direction in which his thought is evolving--from the natural sciences, to a philosphical perspective on theological questions, and even some first explorations of theology itself. And perhaps this culminates in the realization that the doctrine of correspondence can be developed from passages in the Sacred Scriptures. Index.

The Rational Psychology: A Concordance of Subjects
Harold F. Pitcairn

This unique volume is the culmination of Harold Pitcairn's life-long interest in The Ration Psychology, Emanuel Swedenborg's 1742 treatise on the causal relationship of the human mind and soul. Much more than a subject index, this reference book presents the essential points of the Rational Psychology in Swedenborg's own language.

This book allows the reader to navigate the complexities of Swedenborg's terminology with respect to the mind and soul: causally linked as one, but operating discretely as body and spirit. Pitcairn has made this terminology accessible, as a guide for the reader who wishes to penetrate into Swedenborg's model of the soul-body interaction. His attention to detail makes it a valuable research tool.
